The first punch that we are going to go over is the jab. You will need to come out with fists at a hoizontal angle with your stance shoulder width and your left leg forward, if you are a right handed fighter. The next movement is the cross. You will come across your body with your back hand. What makes a jab is that it comes off of the hand that corresponds with the lead leg. So when you lead with your right leg you would jab with your right hand. And the cross, crosses your body from the back fist.
When performing the hook you will come around in a rounded motion, towards the face or the ribs. In the upper cut you come out towards the chin. To give your body and movement extra power you will need to pivot on your back heel instead of just punching from your hand. Another basic strike is the elbow. It can come horizontally or diagonally from above the opponent's body. There is also an upward elbow. |
