Once you have collected your main firewood that you are going to use in your fireplace you will need some kindling to get started. Kindling is basically just small pieces of wood. You will want to use a soft wood because soft wood catches on fire real fast and it will burn real hot for a few minutes. You don't want your kindling to burn for a very long time, especially pine because pine will cause creosote to build up in your chimney and that could possibly cause a fire. What you will want to do is use small strips of pine, just enough to get the fire started and put those in your fireplace. Then you will need to surround your kindling with the larger pieces of your main wood. From here you just light your kindling and your fire will be up and going in a few minutes. |
