Once you have your fire going you may be tempted to throw a little bit more wood on there to have even a bigger fire. Or maybe it is really cold outside and you want to warm up. You must be very careful though, there are many stories of people who overfill a fireplace and have actually caused house fires. It is possible to stuff a fireplace so full of firewood that flames could actually come out the front and either send smoke in the house or actually catch something on fire. You will need to keep your fire, down to a manageable size that fits your fireplace. Also, it is important to keep an eye on your firewood. As it starts to burn, it can shift and move and a log could actually roll off the fire and come out the front and possibly catching something on fire. You will want to keep an eye on it and readjust the wood with the poker if needed to make sure that it is all seated properly and that you are not going to have any pieces that roll out or come loose. |
