One of the biggest things you want to avoid when you're working from a home office environment is distractions. This is true whether you work from home or any typical office setting, it is very easy to get distracted. However the biggest time consumers can be e-mails and voice mails if you let them. If you are constantly checking your e-mail there will almost always be something to do. Most of the time it's not the most important thing, but you find yourself getting sucked into it, and the next thing you know it an hour has gone by. One of the main things to understand is that there is effective way to do things, and an ineffective way. The ineffective way is to just attack everything as soon as it comes. You will very easily eat up your entire day without getting everything done that you need to.
The best course of action is completely avoid e-mails and voice-mails if you can, until you have finished the most important things for that day that you need to get done. If it is impossible for you to do that try to schedule certain times, maybe once or twice a day, when you will check your emails and respond to them. Try not to go over that time. This way you know that if there is anything that you didn't get done that day, it was at least not the most important thing that you needed to accomplish that day. |
