Doing an oil change yourself is quite simple so it is a great way to save money at home. Changing your own oil also saves you the inconvenience of taking a trip to the mechanic and waiting for the oil change to be finished.
Pop the hood of your car
Take off the oil cap
Remove the dipstick
Locate the drain plug and remove it to drain the oilLocate the oil filter and twist it off. Keep in mind that once it is removed oil will drip so have a rag ready.
Make sure the rubber gasket from the old filter is not still on the car or you will not get a good seal and oil will leak.
Screw in the new oil filter and tighten.
Put your drip plug back in and use a wrench to make sure it is on nice and tight.
You can now put in your new oil.
